As students prepare to head back to the classroom, Harlem Shake is once again inviting New Yorkers to give back through its annual Back-to-School Drive benefiting children served by New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services (ACS).
Through Sept. 4, the award-winning fast-casual restaurant group is collecting donations of new school supplies at both its Harlem and Brooklyn locations. Customers who donate eligible back-to-school items will receive $3 off their order as a thank-you for supporting local children in need.
The initiative is designed to help ensure children entering foster care or receiving services through ACS have the essential supplies they need to start the school year prepared and confident.
Harlem Shake is encouraging customers to donate new classroom essentials such as backpacks, notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, binders, calculators and other school supplies.
Known for its burgers, hand-spun milkshakes and neighborhood atmosphere, Harlem Shake has built a reputation for pairing great food with community engagement. The restaurant has regularly supported local organizations and neighborhood initiatives, making its annual school supply drive another extension of its commitment to giving back.
“Back-to-school season can be financially challenging for many families,” the restaurant said in announcing the campaign. “Even a small donation can make a meaningful difference for a child preparing for the first day of school.”
Donations can be dropped off at Harlem Shake’s flagship restaurant at 100 W. 124th St. at Lenox Ave. in Harlem or at 119 Fifth Ave. at Sterling Place in Brooklyn.
Customers making a donation will receive a $3 discount on their purchase during the collection period.
The campaign comes as families across New York City continue to face rising costs for school supplies and other everyday essentials. According to national retail estimates, back-to-school shopping remains one of the largest annual household expenses, with backpacks, notebooks, writing supplies and classroom technology contributing to higher costs for many families.
By participating in the drive, Harlem Shake hopes to make the start of the school year a little easier for children receiving ACS services while encouraging New Yorkers to support their communities in a simple but meaningful way.
The Back-to-School Drive runs through Sept. 4, giving customers more than a month to contribute supplies and help local students begin the academic year equipped for success.
